Highland Avenue Greenhouses has been in business for over 60 years and there is a comfortable feel associated with being in business that long.  In 1949 Eugene Gutter bought the property and opened a greenhouse after returning from duty in World War II.  He began farming the fields and growing annuals in two wood heated greenhouses. As years passed his daughter Linda became more involved with the business and helped the business grow into much of what it is today. After years of playing with trucks under the greenhouse benches and riding on the tractors with his grandfather, Linda’s son Joseph knew exactly what he was born to do. Joe remembers learning about growing plants in the greenhouses when he was very young. His grandfather taught him well and instilled in him the importance of continuing the family tradition. Today there is excitement and a great feeling of energy buzzing around the farm.  The third generation is now in full swing; with it has come new ideas and a fresh round of enthusiasm in continuing a family run business in Maine.
